Optometry Services You Should Be Utilizing

Throughout your lifetime, you're going to need optometry services, whether it's when you're young with your vision just beginning to change or as you age and your vision really changes and affects other aspects of your life. Throughout your life, your vision will change and you will need an optometrist to monitor your vision health and to help treat it. If you aren't using an optometrist, you need to get to one now. Read on for some of the optometrist services you should consider using.

Eye Exams

You should be getting a routine eye exam every single year. Don't wait until you have a vision problem to see the optometrist, you should be seeing the optometrist to keep an eye on your eye health, not just your vision. Young children should begin to get their eyes tested as early as when they first start going to school or even sooner than that. Eye exams help give the optometrist a baseline for your eye health that can be used each year when you come in for another exam. It helps to monitor changes in your vision and any changes in your eyes themselves. As you age, these eye exams will begin to change as well. Your eye exams will be more thorough as your vision changes, and you may also have your pupils dilated or be given a glaucoma test in order to check for beginning signs of glaucoma. Glaucoma testing usually starts in your early 50s.

Purchasing Eyeglasses/Contacts

You should be using your optometrist to purchase your eyeglasses or contacts. Your optometrist will have your prescription on file so you are sure to get the right prescription for your lenses and the right type of contact lenses for your eyes. Your insurance may cover your eyeglasses and contacts when you go through the optometry office, rather than using some boutique online for your lenses.

Eyeglass Care

If you are having any problems with your eyeglasses, your optometrist office will be sure to help. They may be able to help with minor repairs to your eyeglass frames, such as tightening loose screws or the nose pieces of your eyeglasses. If they are crooked, they can help to straighten them so you can see through them clearly and without any issues.

If you don't have an optometrist, or you haven't had your eyes checked in a long time, now is the time. Make an eye appointment to have your vision tested and your eyes examined.
